Full Day Old

Click on Photos for Larger ViewWe are gaining weight - hooray. They went from a flat body fat appearance to a rounded, filled with fluid and getting round belly appearance. They are now as I type just going into the start of the 18th hour so this is really good. They are even finding mom most times. At times they need a bit of help much like Adele's pups did when they were of this age. But they too have great instincts.
Someone mentioned that these pups will probably fade out in colour to be like Roxie. I do not believe that to be so. These pups are darker and seem to be brindles vs sables. But colour doesn't matter. Just interesting what each combo brings. I find the black and white one has stunning markings and that tail....
I worry the first 24 hours more than at any other time unless there are issues. I am relaxed enough to bring my ipad everywhere and make a turkey. I am sure these pups will end up being fatties much like Adele's.
Here are today and last night's videos:
Water Time
Yes, Ms. Roxie is a princess and she knows it. She is a delicate beauty and likes me to feed her food and water. We only do this during puppy time. They even came out at the get together and said hello.
Puppy Huddle
When pups huddle like this they are cold so ther heat lamp was placed over them. We pay attention to body language so we can meet their needs.
5am Feast
Yeah don't ask me why I caught this. :-) It was me. I was in bed but obviously not sleeping.
At this age, they can get cold easily. They can't regulate their body temperature so we must monitor. They can't until their eyes and ears open. Yes, they also can't hear yet.
Watch and see if the black and white can find it's mom.
Momma's get Turkey tonight. Yum!

All boys and brindles! Count carefully when I leave after picking mine up in December lol..
Gerda, are you getting a third one ( I think you have two now but I could be wrong). Those videos are priceless. Beautiful to watch and Roxie is such a good mom. Have a great Turkey dinner!
Enjoy your dinner! And thank you for the peak at the pups through the window!
Agree, that tail is something special.
I really love the 'can I find you' video with Roxie leaning forward to help him. They all look like they are doing just fine.
Angela: Yes! They are doing well.
I enjoyed the dinner. I am getting complaints about cleaning up. heh and they wonder why I don't cook big meals often.
Gerda has 3 already. tee hee
Darlah - what a great Thanksgiving weekend for the Talemaker crew! Imagine - nine beautiful, healthy puppies! Congratulations! You've done it again.
Hi Anne,
Yes I have three already which is the city by law limit and I think mine too.. As a single Mom it keeps me very busy lol.. Tre is my first ever male dog and I love him to bits , so I maybe a convert And while it's not about colour in any breed I've always been partial to brindles. But hey once you look into their eyes and smell that special puppy scent you just want to take them all home.
Just to clarify .. I'm a single 'mom' of dogs .. Lol.. Friends are falling over thinking I've been hiding children somewhere
Darlah sounds like another busy day. For you. The pups are beautiful and Roxie, again, is a wonderful Mother. So nice to see. I am so glad you enjoyed a turkey dinner. How do you do everything? I dream about getting a second. Maybe one day. Garda I am sure it is heavenly at your house. Enjoy them all. I definitely love my little boy. The brindled are beautiful. rusty and Holly were sables and now Rusty's colour is much like Roxie and Ella. All colours are beautiful. Look at Saffie!
I didn't think they'd end up being as light as Roxie, I actually thought the puppies would have similar colouring to Holly. I'm amazed that you had time to cook a big turkey dinner! lol! Let them complain about cleaning up! Just tell them if they'd rather do the cooking... lol! Hope it was a good turkey! We're having ours today, and thinking that next year we'll have an Adele or Roxie pup here with us! :-) (And they'll have just celebrated their one year b-day!)
Another question, you seemed to know that Roxie's puppies wouldn't be as large as Adele's at birth, how/why did you know? Just curious. :-)
Roxie did not gain as much as Adele and you could see size on the xray despite the xray was early for Roxie. I am rather good at reading the xrays with sizing.
Here is Roxie's last litter. Holly is to the far right. Ella is the apricot and white and Rusty who will go light and dark throughout is on top. The boys that are brindles (sables and brindles are mighty close) are darker than Holly at the same age. I can put that photo up but its not necessary.
I want to say Tiny from that litter is now dark slate silver. He is the same colour as Kat's brother Murphy.
I love seeing Roxie's last litter. I didn't remember Rusty and his litter mates so small. I enjoy watching these new litters as much as I did then. Except I was so excited about bringing one home. I counted the weeks and days. You new forever families are so lucky. Enjoy!
